Write a cover letter with evidence for this role.

NextRoles helps you prepare a tailored cover letter as part of Job Check. Bring the job advert and your CV together, then review a draft that connects your experience with what the employer is looking for.

Give your cover letter a clear purpose

Your letter should explain why this role interests you and which parts of your experience are relevant. It adds context to your CV instead of repeating every detail.

Connect examples to requirements

Choose one or two requirements that matter in the advert and explain the evidence you have for them. A specific example is more useful than a list of adjectives.

Keep it accurate and personal

Review the draft for names, dates and claims. Edit phrases you would not naturally use and include only achievements you can explain.

How the cover letter builder works

  1. Run a Job Check using the job description and your CV.
  2. Review your evidence and the areas that need clearer explanation.
  3. Use the cover letter draft as a starting point, then refine the content.
  4. Check the employer’s instructions and prepare the final version for their application process.

Check the individual plans for current access and usage limits. Students using school accounts can ask their teacher about the tools available to them.

A practical cover letter structure

  1. Opening: name the role and explain why you are applying.
  2. Evidence: connect a relevant achievement or responsibility to the advert.
  3. Motivation: explain what interests you about the organisation or work.
  4. Closing: thank the reader and follow the requested next steps.

For a placement or first opportunity, our work experience cover letter example shows how to use school and volunteering experience.

Cover letter questions

Can I use the same letter for every job?

You can reuse your structure, but review the requirements and choose examples for each role. Check that the company name and job title are correct.

What if I have no paid work experience?

Use relevant school projects, volunteering, clubs or responsibilities. Explain what you did and learned without presenting it as paid employment.

Should I submit the AI draft unchanged?

Read it carefully first. Check the facts, make it sound like you and follow any employer rules about AI-assisted applications.
