Turn experience into clear answers

Interview preparation starts with understanding the role and finding relevant examples. Choose situations where your own actions are clear, including work, volunteering, school projects and everyday responsibilities.

Practise a focused answer

Explain the situation briefly, then spend most of your answer on what you did and the outcome. Say “I” when describing your contribution to a team effort.

Reflect on the feedback

Review where an answer needs clearer evidence or a more direct response. Practise again in your own words instead of memorising a script.

Your interview preparation checklist

  1. Read the job description and the organisation’s information.
  2. Choose examples for the main skills and responsibilities.
  3. Practise questions and review your answers in Interview Prep.
  4. Prepare questions about the role, training and team.
  5. Check the time, location or video link and any instructions from the employer.

The STAR method with an example answer can help you structure evidence without making every answer sound scripted.

First interview or school placement?

You can use examples from a class project, club, caring responsibility or volunteering. Focus on a real situation and what you learned. NextRoles for schools brings practice together with CV building and career exploration.

Interview Prep access depends on your plan or school account. See current individual plans or ask your teacher.

Interview practice questions

Can practice predict the questions I will be asked?

No. Practice helps you prepare examples and think through the role, but the employer chooses its own questions.

Should I memorise my answers?

Remember the key points and practise explaining them naturally. Be ready for follow-up questions and changes in wording.
